Benefits
of SMASH
SMASH’s combination of existing
software and customized implementation
offers benefits that you won't receive
from either plug-and-play software or
big consulting firms. Scan’s expertise
in the Automatic Identification and Mobile
Computing field, makes SMASH a comprehensive,
solution with tightly integrated bar-coding
and scanning processes. This is the key
differentiator from other generic Warehouse
Management tools.
Increase Inventory Accuracy and
Availability
Remember the old adage, "A place
for everything and everything in its place?"
That's what SMASH gives you. It sets up
trackable locations for products from
the time they're received until the time
they're shipped.
Reduce Operational Costs
Information is power. In this case, information
about shipments, product locations, product
counts, order fulfillment, and despatch
drive the system. This directs workers
to perform each task comfortably, more
quickly and accurately. The result is
lower costs, fewer mistakes and more productive
inventory.
Improve Customer Service.
When shipments arrive on time with the
right products, everybody wins. SMASH
delivers better customer satisfaction.
It also delivers better reports to customers
about their orders and product availability.
Expand Your Business
SMASH frees you to do more work and fulfill
more orders. That means more business.
It still lets you be very flexible to
manage each customer's unique requirements
better. You can take on new challenges
and new markets with confidence.

| Receiving |
|
SMASH equips workers to unload shipments
and check-in products into the system
using packing list or Advance Shipping
Notice (ASN) to count SKUs. Products can
be checked-in using bar-codes that already
exist on them. Alternatively, SMASH can
generate bar-code labels for the products
that are received without them. It will
audit actual vs. expected receipt and
recognize any shortages or excesses. Check-in
is real time, allowing product to be considered
as stock in-hand when it has been checked
in. The products are then immediately
available for despatch if required. Cross-docking
and Flow-through of material is also easily
accomplished using SMASH.

| Putaway |
|
The Putaway function is a rule-based,
system-driven process that determines
the best location for a SKU. SMASH provides
Dynamic Space Allocation, with a wide
range of design options to incorporate
putaway logic that corresponds to business
needs. SMASH generates best-fit putaway
lists, and directs the operator to a preferred
put-away location, as defined by the rules
for the particular SKU(s). By scanning
with radio terminals, SMASH records information
including SKU number, quantity, location,
operator and date of the inventory movements.
Once at the put-away location, the operator
verifies the accuracy of the move utilizing
the radio terminal.

| Pick
and Pack |
SMASH supports pick and pack operations
that require multiple picks and kitting
thereafter. It maintains inventory levels
in the operations area and controls
the movement of items from bulk storage
locations to the operations area. Workers
are directed to complete replenishment.
All replenishment moves are system directed
and accuracy verified through the use
of the RF equipment.

| Picking |
The picking list directs the warehouse
worker to pick items for customer orders
from various areas within the warehouse.
Warehouse workers using RF equipment
are directed to locations by SMASH and
are provided with instructions regarding
the number and description of SKU to
be picked. SMASH supports multiple picking
methods including individual order picking,
multiple order picking, and consolidated
wave picking. Picking is also expedited
using picks across pack-sizes in order
to achieve fastest execution times.
|
|
| Order
Processing |
SMASH relies on the data interface
with the host system for all order entry
functions, including customer orders,
warehouse transfers, returns-to-vendor,
and manufacturing work orders. Order
execution requests are received from
the host system using a system-specific
data interface. The same interface communicates
picking confirmations and replenishment
operations back to the host system.
Order processing starts with Stock allocation.
SMASH maintains a hard allocation status
for the orders that are in the system.
Allocation is done on the basis of FIFO
or Pro-rata logic. In this allocation,
SMASH can also handle multiple MRP products
as per the distribution logic of LIFO
or FIFO based on MRP. There after wave
construction and wave release takes
place. SMASH can expedite orders based
on prioritisation.

| Management
Reports |
Every transaction that is captured
by SMASH can be incorporated into management
reports. In addition, all data elements
can be transferred in various file structures
to the host system for manipulation
or report generation.
Typical reports generated by the SMASH
include:
1. Receipt Register
2. Putaway Log
3. Picking Log
4. SKU Ledger
5. Stock Position
6. Capacity Utilisation
7. Despatch Register

| Shipping
and Load Verification |
After picking, SKUs are moved to the
shipping area. A truck departure schedule
is established and orders are released
to the floor for loading according to
the schedule. SMASH, through the wireless
terminals, verifies the proper loading
of the product onto the trucks/carriers.
SMASH can create a shipping labels to
conform to client specifications.
An operator will close the loading process,
thereby generating the shipping documents,
and also an Advance Shipping Notice
for the destination location.

| Location
Map |
Every identifiable location in the
warehouse including temporary receiving
lanes and picking containers is identified
with unique bar codes.
SMASH maintains an inventory of all
your products with detailed location
information. The perpetual financial
inventory information on the host system
mirrors the physical quantities in the
warehouse system.
The system keeps accurate records of
every SKU, quantity, FIFO batch, serial
numbers, unique storage location, and
physical and logical characteristic
of each location required to direct
the movement, storage and retrieval
of product within the warehouse.

| Task
Manager |
The Task Manager (TM) is a tool for
controlling and scheduling putaway,
picking and shipping functions within
a warehouse. It prioritizes the sequence
of activities within the available terminals
and other resources.. Through TM, the
Warehouse Manager is able to selectively
order picks from a list of open orders
and combine them into one single wave.
This allows the manager to optimize
manpower resources.

|

| Cycle
Count |
SMASH provides the capability to confirm,
count, and verify the inventory in a
real-time environment for all functions
within the facility. The counting and
investigation of discrepancies is closely
timed to the reported error condition.
